This moderate quake was felt rather distinctly here in Claremont; two separate jolts from the arrivals of the P-wave (mostly vertical) and the S-wave (mostly horizontal) were noticed a few seconds apart. The earthquake appears to be a strike-slip event on (or near) the Whittier-Chino-Elsinore fault system. Peak ground accelerations recorded in the epicentral region were around 3% of g.
