A top view of gastrulation in the albino-type Feb21-22 embryo illustrates the power of being able to manipulate the 3-D data set to gain an optimal view of morphological changes. The top of the embryo has been cut off (in software) and one can see directly down into the blastocoel. The blastocoel consists primarily of fluid with very little scattering material, so it appears dark blue or nearly black. The involuting mesoderm appears as a lighter blue layer closing down like an iris diaphragm on a point just ventrally displaced from the animal pole. |
