Blastocoel Fragmentation during Gastrulation
Feb 21, 2001

This movie is a series of steps through a single 3-D image, one 15 micron slice at a time, taken near the end of gastrulation. There are noticeable dark "pockets" in the migrating mesoderm that seem to be devoid of scattering material, probably regions of blastocoel fluid that have separated the migrating mesoderm from the interior surface of the ectoderm. These pockets are also visible near the end of the timelapse movie Top View.
